Shannan Gilbert disappeared on May 1, 2010, under mysterious and alarming circumstances after visiting a client she met through Craigslist.

The meeting took place in the gated community of Oak Beach on Long Island, New York.

Her disappearance marked the beginning of a complex and tragic case that would capture national attention and reveal a series of other unsolved crimes.

On the night Shannan vanished, she made a haunting call to 911 that lasted for 23 minutes.

During the call, Shannan sounded frantic and terrified, repeatedly telling the dispatcher that someone was trying to kill her.

Despite the dispatcher’s efforts to get her to provide her location, Shannan’s responses were disjointed and panicked.

She was heard saying, “They’re trying to kill me,” and “Help me, please,” which painted a chilling picture of her last known moments.

The 911 call was a critical piece of evidence, yet it also raised many questions. Shannan’s voice, filled with fear and urgency, indicated she was in imminent danger.

The call ended abruptly, and despite extensive searches, she remained missing for over a year.

In December 2011, Shannan’s remains were discovered in a marshy area near Oak Beach, not far from where she was last seen.

This discovery was a part of a broader investigation into what has become known as the Long Island Serial Killer case.

During the search for Shannan, the police uncovered the remains of ten other victims, mostly young women who had been working as escorts.

These findings led to suspicions that a serial killer might be operating in the area.

Shannan’s disappearance and the subsequent discovery of her body highlighted significant issues related to the safety and vulnerabilities of sex workers.

It also underscored the complexities of the case, involving multiple victims and intertwining narratives.

Despite various theories, the exact circumstances of Shannan Gilbert’s death remain unclear.

Some believe she was a victim of foul play, possibly linked to the other discovered bodies, while others suggest she may have succumbed to the elements in a state of fear and confusion.

Shannan Gilbert’s case remains an open investigation. Her family continues to seek justice and answers, advocating for further exploration into the circumstances of her death and the broader implications it holds for the safety of women and sex workers.

The haunting 911 call and the discovery of her remains serve as a somber reminder of the dangers faced by vulnerable individuals and the enduring quest for truth and justice.
