Harlan McKnight, 86, of Onsted, MI, passed away July 8, 2024, after a short and loving stay at Hospice of Lenawee. Harlan was born February 7, 1938, in Onsted, MI, to Gilbert and Opal (Vansickle) McKnight. He married Willie Lou Howard on March 26, 1982.
Harlan worked and retired from the Lenawee County Road Commission after 39 years. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed many years in the woods and on the water.
He enjoyed quiet times on his porch watching the birds and the wildlife on and around his pond.
His favorite times were spent with his family and friends, and he looked forward to his Sunday morning breakfast crew where he reconnected with old neighbors and good friends.
Surviving are two sons, Tom (Michele) McKnight of Manitou Beach, MI, and stepson Doug (Jessica) Howard of Middleburg, VA; daughters: Ann (Randy) Reese of Brooklyn, MI, Laurie "Bean" (Norman) Childs of Onsted, MI, 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Harlan was preceded in death by his father and mother, his brother, Wayne McKnight, of Tucson, AZ; granddaughter, Sasha McKnight Elliott of Sand Creek, MI; grandson, Matthew Howard of Onsted, MI; great grandchildren: John Paul Childs, Gabriel Francis Kruse and Willa May Childs.
A graveside service has taken place at Maple Shade Cemetery in Onsted with Fr Todd Koenigsknecht officiating, with a small gathering following his burial.
