The death has occurred of Dmitri "Meech" Thompson, a professional basketball player who was a former student of Elon Sport Management. After completing his time at Elon, Dmitri Thompson finished his career as one of the most prolific scorers in the history of the program.
As a result of this achievement, he became the 41st player in the history of the school to reach the milestone of 1,000 points in his career. After Thompson's career came to an end, he had played in 129 games, made 90 starts, and finished with 1,193 points in his career.
This placed him in 28th position on Elon's all-time scoring record. Thompson's career ended with him having scored 1,193 points. Throughout his career, Thompson averaged 9.2 points per game while playing for the Phoenix. This was his average scoring rate.
In addition to scoring the ball at an effective rate of 47.5% (448-944), he also grabbed a total of 609 rebounds over the course of his four seasons, which is equivalent to an average of 4.7 rebounds per game. During the 2017–18 season, Thompson had the best season of his career.
He scored 12.3 points per game, which placed him in second place on the team and was nearly four points more than his junior season. It was the best season he had ever had in his career. It was also during the 2017–18 season that he had the most amount of rebounds per game in his entire career while wearing the maroon and gold while he was playing for the team.
During the time that Thompson was a student at Elon, he was recognized for his exceptional performance. This was demonstrated by the fact that numerous of his dunks were included in the list of Top-10 Plays that SportsCenter compiled annually.
He participated in the 2018 Dark Horse Dunker Fan Vote as a senior and made it all the way to the semifinals of the competition. In spite of this, he was eliminated from the competition two rounds before to his arrival at the 2018 State Farm College Slam Dunk Championships.
In addition to being an outstanding student-athlete, Thompson was also an outstanding student-athlete during his entire career. According to the CAA Commissioner's Academic Award, he was the recipient of the award.
