A deputy-involved shooting on Alipaz Street in San Juan Capistrano has unveiled a chilling homicide scene, escalating a domestic incident response into a tragic investigation.

The Orange County community is reeling from the shocking events that transpired on July 8, 2024, leaving many questions about the circumstances leading to the fatal encounter.

The incident began when deputies from the Orange County Sheriff's Department were dispatched to a residence on Alipaz Street following a 911 call reporting a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, deputies were confronted with a volatile situation.

According to initial reports, the suspect, later identified as 35-year-old Mark Ellis, appeared agitated and refused to comply with the deputies' commands.

As the deputies attempted to de-escalate the situation, Ellis reportedly brandished a weapon, prompting the deputies to respond with force.

During the confrontation, shots were fired, and Ellis was struck. Paramedics were called to the scene, but despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead.

As deputies secured the area, they discovered a horrifying scene inside the residence—a woman, later identified as 32-year-old Samantha Davis, was found deceased with signs of severe trauma.

Preliminary investigations suggest that she was the victim of a violent attack, and authorities believe her death occurred before the deputies' arrival.

The Orange County Sheriff's Department has launched a comprehensive investigation into the events leading up to the shooting and the subsequent discovery of the homicide.

The department's Critical Incident Response Team is working alongside homicide detectives to piece together the sequence of events and determine the exact nature of the relationship between Ellis and Davis.
