The community of Grand Island, NY, is enveloped in deep sorrow following the tragic death of 10-year-old Kylaina Rusch. On July 8, 2024, Kylaina passed away from suicide by hanging, a heart-wrenching consequence of relentless bullying from her schoolmates. 


This devastating event has left her family, friends, and community grappling with unimaginable grief and loss.

Born on March 12, 2014, Kylaina was a bright, joyful, and loving child who brought light into the lives of everyone who knew her. 

She was known for her infectious laughter, boundless energy, and a kind heart that was always ready to help others. 

Her passion for drawing and reading was evident, and she often spent hours lost in her favorite books and creating beautiful art.

Despite her outwardly cheerful demeanor, Kylaina faced severe bullying at school, which took a profound toll on her young spirit. 

The relentless torment from her peers became an unbearable burden, ultimately leading to her tragic decision. 

Her passing is a stark reminder of the critical need for increased awareness, prevention, and intervention efforts to combat bullying and support those who are suffering.

In the wake of this tragedy, Kylaina's family has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover funeral expenses and support the family during this incredibly difficult time. 

The outpouring of support from the community has been overwhelming, with many contributing to honor Kylaina’s memory and raise awareness about the devastating effects of bullying.

Kylaina is survived by her loving parents, Jessica and Michael Rusch, her younger brother, Tyler, and her grandparents. 

Her family's hearts are broken by the loss of their precious daughter and sister.

Their greatest wish is to see an end to bullying so that no other family has to endure such a tragic loss.

A memorial service to celebrate Kylaina’s life will be held on July 15, 2024, at the Grand Island Community Church. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to anti-bullying organizations, ensuring that Kylaina’s legacy contributes to the fight against bullying and supports children in need.
