On the evening of September 2, 2025, a tragic incident unfolded on North Pine Run Road near Moses Spring Road, leaving the tight-knit community of Blowing Rock in mourning. 


Just before 8:30 p.m., 55-year-old Michael Allen Duncan Jr. was involved in a devastating accident that would ultimately prove fatal. 

According to authorities, Duncan was riding his electric bike along the winding, wooded stretch of North Pine Run Road when he was suddenly and unexpectedly struck by a deer. The collision was swift and silent, catching Duncan off guard and causing him to be ejected from his bike.

The area where the accident occurred is known for its scenic beauty, bordered by dense trees and natural terrain that can occasionally pose hazards to outdoor enthusiasts. 
Responding troopers arrived promptly, describing Duncan’s riding as at a normal pace, with no evidence to suggest impairment or reckless behavior at the time of the crash. 

Investigators noted that the impact was severe enough to cause catastrophic injuries, despite Duncan’s protective gear and the relatively low speed at which he was traveling.
