The community of Bergenfield, New Jersey, is mourning the loss of James "Jim" Fasano, a revered figure and the esteemed principal of Bergenfield High School. 


Jim passed away unexpectedly on June 26, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, leadership, and profound impact on the countless lives he touched throughout his career.

Born on March 17, 1970, in Bergenfield, Jim Fasano was deeply rooted in his community. He was a graduate of Bergenfield High School, class of 1988, where he was known for his academic excellence and active participation in extracurricular activities.

His passion for education and community service was evident early on, guiding him toward a career in education.

Jim pursued his undergraduate degree in Education from Rutgers University, followed by a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Montclair State University.

His academic journey prepared him well for the roles he would assume in the future, and his commitment to lifelong learning was a testament to his belief in the power of education.

In his 20-year tenure at Bergenfield High School, Jim Fasano began as a history teacher, known for his engaging teaching style and ability to connect with students. 

He quickly moved into administrative roles, ultimately becoming the principal. As a leader, Jim was respected for his visionary approach, always striving to enhance the educational experience for both students and staff. 

His open-door policy and genuine care for the well-being of his students and faculty earned him widespread admiration.

Under Jim’s leadership, Bergenfield High School saw significant improvements in academic performance, extracurricular involvement, and community engagement.

He championed numerous initiatives, including advanced placement programs, mental health resources, and inclusive education policies. 

His ability to foster a supportive and nurturing school environment made Bergenfield High School a model institution.

Outside of his professional life, Jim was a devoted husband to his wife, Lisa, and a loving father to their three children, Emily, Jack, and Olivia. 

He was actively involved in their lives, coaching soccer teams, attending school events, and supporting their endeavors with unwavering enthusiasm. 

Family and community were at the heart of everything Jim did, and his presence will be sorely missed.

Jim was also a pillar of the Bergenfield community, participating in local events, volunteering, and serving on various community boards. 

His commitment to making Bergenfield a better place for all its residents was reflected in every aspect of his life.

James Fasano is survived by his wife, Lisa; his children, Emily, Jack, and Olivia; his parents, Anthony and Marie Fasano; and his siblings, Michael and Laura. 

A memorial service will be held on Sunday at 3 p.m. at St. John’s Church, where the community will come together to honor and celebrate his life. 

Jim’s enduring legacy will continue to inspire and guide the Bergenfield community for years to come.
